“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood”
Tune in to an artsy 80’s-like animated journey through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights courtesy of Amnesty International. I particularly liked Article 13 with its chirpy reminder (literally an enthused cartoon chicken scene) that we have the right to freedom of choice in residence and country and Article 19 with the lovely dancing paper children freely expressing themselves.
Let’s work on making all of these declarations a lived reality. Our nation waxes poetic about the right to life and liberty, etc. But the behavior of our exception to this global rules means we are well aware that many go without homes, quality education, and certainly lack brotherhood in our societal relationships to hierarchy and power. Knowing your human rights, it’s a good thing. We need to continue to act and create system of accountability in our own neighborhoods.
